Welcome to Utrecht Detroit!

Hello, my name is Jon Parlangeli. I have been the manager of Utrecht Detroit, located at 4863 Woodward, Detroit MI 48201, for two years now. My background experience ranges from sculpture and jewelry to art restoration and painting. As a working artist for over 18 years it is easy to say that I have found my slice of heaven here at Utrecht Detroit. This is because Utrecht Detroit maintains an emphasis on being more than just the city’s premier art supplier.

Utrecht Detroit is also a primary resource in Detroit for regional art interaction and information. In the store you can view local artist’s work, garner information on artistic techniques, current events or find out about local/regional show openings. As well, visitors may challenge any of the staff, and even other customers, to discussions of fine art because each employee specializes in a particular artistic discipline as well as maintaining broad familiarity with art as a whole.

We are located on the corner of Woodward and Warren on Wayne State University’s campus just a stone’s throw from the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Utrecht Detroit is a full service art supplies store carrying products from hundreds of national brands. We also maintain a full service frame shop on premises operated by professional framer OrLander Johnson. OrLander has been on board for over 16 years, is an artist, and is also the Senior Assistant Manager here at Utrecht Detroit. Feel free to utilize his abilities and experiences when you visit the store.

As a place for supplies, dialogue and leaning we work hard every day to be your trusted resource. The Detroit store currently has a staff of 8 artists and designers waiting to assist you.  Come in and see Nick Jones, our Assistant Manger, who has been with Utrecht for over 4 years now. He has his Masters Degree in Fine Arts from WSU and can handle any discipline you need. Nick has been dabbling in mixed media collage lately and has much to offer inquisitive customers.

There is also four year veteran Chris Morris, artist and musician, who can smoothly guide customers through the rigors of art and art materials both professionally and economically. Rachel (Industrial Design), Maria (Drawing/Fine Arts), Ra-Dariak (Industrial Design, Product Development, Fine Arts) Lisa (Painting/Fine Arts) and Marvelisa (Painting/Mixed Media/Design/Graphics) are all waiting to assist customers with their needs.
